Let us start with an example. Consider the three-digit number is 125 and we are going to find out its square i.e; 1252 = ?.
|
125
X 125
|
|
?
|
We are going to follow the following simple steps to find
the answer.
Multiply 5 by 5 and put (25) as right hand side of the answer. - Add 1 to top left digit 12 to make it 13.
- Now multiply (13) by bottom left 12 which gives
156. Place (156) as the left hand side of the answer.
Voila!!! We got the answer. It’s 15625.
|
125
X 125
|
|
15625
|
So, 1252= 12 X (12 +1) / 25 = 15625;
In the same way,
1052= 10 X 11/25 =
11025;
1352= 13 X 14/25 = 18225;
[Note: In case of finding out the square of a two-digit number after multiplying 5 by 5 there was only
one digit on the left hand side. Whereas, in this case there are two digits at
the left hand side. ]
Exercises:
1. | 145 X 145 | 2. | 175 X 175 | 3. | 195 X 195 | 4. | 155 X 155 |
